The importance of blood
glucose testing
If you are diabetic it is critical for you to know what your blood glucose levels is and what it should be at all times. If it is off, you should know exactly what to do to get it back where it should be. Keep a record of the changes in order to show your doctor.
Some glucose tests report blood glucose results as plasma glucose values, others use whole blood glucose values. Plasma values are ten to fifteen percent higher than whole blood glucose values.
What your glucose range should be
Though optimum ranges may vary, the target range for those using whole blood is eighty to one hundred and twenty before meals and one hundred to one hundred and forty at bedtime. For those using plasma values, the target glucose range is generally ninety to one hundred and thirty before meals and one hundred ten to one hundred and fifty at bedtime.
Ask your healthcare provider for advice on choosing what's the best glucose test method for you. It is urgent that you test yourself everyday and keep track of your levels. And of course, if your levels are off the desired range you need to take immediate action.
